She had a powerful and soulful voice.

Her voice was often compared to that of Billie Holiday.

She was nicknamed 'The Barefoot Diva' because she usually performed on stage barefoot.

They have been huge in Europe for some time now, with a big following in the rest of the world.

This song was the one that first attracted me to them, and I have been following them for years since.

Most of their music has a political message. And they are interesting because they come from an immigrant background, and their music crosses over different genres, but they remain relevant in mainstream European music as well. 

They are pioneers.

The choreography in the video was done by a Mozambiquean dancer, who integrated contemporary African moves.

South Africans, in particular, will recognise some very distinct Pantsula dance moves.

You probably have already heard this one by now. A collaboration between two of the best rappers of all time. Both Kanye and Jay-z have broken barriers and cultivated highly individual images and changed perceptions about rappers only being gangstas. They have shown that rappers can be smart businessmen and entrepeneurs as well.

We love this song in particular because it speaks to the struggle and achievement of economic freedom and power by the minority populations of the United States (blacks, latino's etc.).
